We are technically in spring now but as I’m typing this up it is snowing outside! I’ve grabbed myself a cup of tea and want to do a quick review on this mascara and this newly released mascara primer.
I received this lash primer before it was even available on Sephora and so I’ve been testing this out for a few weeks now. I don’t really care for mascara primers as they are just another step in my makeup routine but after trying this one out I have been using it on a daily basis! It makes a dramatic difference – I’ve mostly used this Marc Jacobs mascara primer with their Velvet Noir mascara and I can say that when I wear the primer my lashes look almost double in size – it’s crazy! The primer coats my lashes evenly and takes a few seconds to apply and it isn’t hard covering it up with mascara as the formula shade isn’t stark white like the others I’ve used. The other thing that I’ve noticed with this primer is that it has nourished my lashes and by using it on a daily basis my lashes are longer than before and much more full and without little bald spots. On the Sephora website it states that it has conditioning properties and I definitely didn’t think that I would notice my lashes becoming more lush, but I have.
After raving about the primer I have to tell you that the mascara is just so-so. It does a nice job at coating the lashes and thickening but it doesn’t perform as well as other mascaras I’ve tried in terms of curling, holding the curl and lengthening. The formula is super black though and it doesn’t flake throughout the day which is a big pet peeve of mine.
I would highly recommend that you check out the lash primer because it’s unreal! I have no complaints about it – it’s honestly magically however, the mascara is just OK and I don’t feel strongly about it.
You guys… why did I have to try this? Now I’m love with it and it’s more than double the price of my previous love which was the L’oreal Voluminous Original! I can now understand why this is the #1 best-selling prestige mascara in the U.S.
First off the packaging is gorgeous but a little annoying because the lid is heavy and feels just a bit awkward when applying. The brush itself is my favourite type which is a long natural bristle that brushes through my lashes while building extreme volume and length. I avoid using this on my lower lashes because of the long bristles and it did transfer to my under eyes after a few hours of wear. This truly gives a false lash look in little time because the volume builds up super quickly. This has an intense black shade which I enjoy because it really emphasizes my lashes.
The formula is on the drier side which I didn’t like at first but understood why after using it a few times. When the product is too wet it doesn’t build which is the reason why some mascaras aren’t very good at the beginning but after a few uses it gets better. I’m not sure if this is such a great idea but I did have to end up adding a tiny drop of water after about one month or so of use because it was drying up too quickly and started clumping my lashes together. Once I did that it gave me another month or so before the product finished and fully dried up.
Have you tried this mascara? What do you think about it? let me know in the comments section!
Unfortunately my week has not been the best – been sick since Wednesday and today I forced myself to get up and start getting back into my routine. So, for today I thought I would review this mascara – this is an old favourite. I first discovered this when I got it in a Gift With Purchase (GWP). From there on I’ve been using this interchangeably with my other mascaras.
This mascara reminds me of the L’Oreal Voluminous Original but a little bit better because the formula does not flake or smudge at all. This mascara stays on really well which I appreciate because there is nothing more annoying then seeing little black flakes under my eyes. This is not the waterproof formula as I tend to stay away from those because I pretty much pull out all my lashes trying to remove it at the end of the day.
The brush is really nice at combing out your lashes and makes it easy for an even application so you don’t end up with a bunch of clumps. It also curls my lashes and holds the curl for an entire work day which makes my lashes look longer however, this doesn’t do much for length – mostly volume.
When I saw Tati’s (YouTube) review on this mascara I ran out and bought it! She had nothing bad to say about this and since I love the original Voluminous mascara by L’oreal I thought this would replace that for me.
The packaging is gorgeous – similar to the Too Faced one, and having heard that this is a dupe for that I was even more excited to try it out. I got the Blackest Black shade and luckily enough, true to it’s name, this is a very intense black. The brush is on the larger side and has long bristles that help comb out your lashes while building them up very quickly. Because of the brush size; I did not use this on my lower lashes in fears of it getting everywhere. The brush holds a lot of product so you really need to brush your lashes thoroughly to avoid getting clumps.
The formula is also really nice – it gives volume and length without looking too heavy. I really liked this mascara but then after 2 weeks or so the formula completely dried out and because of that I had lots of flaking and it did not look the same as when it was fresh. This is a huge disappointment; because there is no point of purchasing a tube of mascara that will only last you a few uses. Since then, I’ve seen many reviews pointing out the same issue and so I know that I was not the only one that experienced this.
Have you tried this mascara? What was your experience?
I’m back with another drugstore mascara review! This one was sent to me by Influenster complimentary for me to try out and give an honest review for you guys!
This mascara confused me – the first couple of times I used it I thought it was dried out and didn’t deposit much product and it didn’t layer at all. I thought it would be preferred by someone who wants natural-looking lashes. However, I left this mascara in the car for a few days and I decided to give it one last try before writing my review and I was shocked that the formula had completely changed. The only guess that I could make regarding why the formula changed is that it was sitting inside of a car for the few hot days and that must have warmed up the product.
The “new” formula is much more wet and is able to layer on pretty well; it gives amazing length and a bit of volume but nothing crazy. I wonder how many people had gotten this mascara in what I believe is the intended wet formula and how many people received it dried up? It makes a huge difference in performance – I went from not using it and throwing it aside to wanting to use this on a daily basis.
The formula itself dries pretty quickly and once it is dry it will not budge! It doesn’t transfer, smudge or flake and looks exactly the same at the end of the day as it did in the beginning. It is a bit harder to remove because it comes off in little pieces or “tubes” rather than melting off like usual non-waterproof mascaras.
The brush is nice; it has long bristles that comb well through the lashes and deposit product evenly. It tapers slightly at the tip so you can reach the inner and outer corners.
Hopefully Revlon can figure out how to prevent this mascara from drying in the tube and when they do I would recommend this for those hot, long summer days!
Have you tried this? Let me know what condition your mascara was down below!
I first tried this mascara a while back in the Estee Lauder block buster purchase with purchase and forgot about it until I had another chance to try it out.
The packaging is gorgeous; it is probably the nicest bottle of mascara that I have ever owned. It has a fat bristle brush that combs through the lashes perfectly. It very slightly tapers at the tip which makes it a bit easier to reach those tiny lashes in the inner corner.
Here comes the pros and cons of this mascara:
I love the packaging, brush, and the instant fanned out effect that it gives my lashes while quickly building the volume and length. Also, I really like how black this mascara is (Shade Extreme Black)! However, this mascara does not do well on the bottom lash; it smudges and transfers creating dark shadows under my eyes which usually never happens to me with any mascara. Also, this mascara dries out very quickly; it started to dry out after 3 weeks of using it which I wasn’t pleased with.
Overall, I like this mascara but it really doesn’t do anything special in terms of making itself remembered. I will probably forget about this mascara and will not repurchase.
There are so many mascaras on the market that I feel it’s just a guessing game when it comes to picking one out. I usually go for drugstore mascaras since the price is more reasonable seeing that I have to purchase a new mascara every month. For some reason mascaras always dry out on me; it could be because I sometimes take them in my purse when I’m running late to apply when I’m in the car (passenger seat but I don’t recommend this because you can poke your eye out).
What I noticed about this mascara right away is the scent – it smells like roses, very fresh and floral however, not the best for sensitive eyes. The formula itself is very volumizing and lengthening, however it can be too much very quickly. The brush picks up a lot of product resulting in the very “spidery” lash look, which I have to admit I kind of like when the clumps are not on the tip of the lashes. The 01 Excessive Black shade is extremely black; which I really enjoyed. The brush below in the picture has been squished (not sure what happened); it doesn’t look as flat when brand new – it actually has a rather large brush.
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara in 01 Excessive Black.
Lastly, the longevity is good but because of the excess product that it applies to your lashes you may get some fall out and flakes throughout the day. Overall, I think this is a good mascara but I’m not sure if it is worth the price tag.
I have had numerous people ask me if I was wearing false lashes when wearing this mascara and when I told them about this brand, they had never heard of it. So I thought a review of this amazing mascara was long overdue.
I love the black packaging with the silver details; it looks very luxurious. The brush looks like an average brush with short/medium length bristles; nothing special. However, when I apply this mascara to my lashes it instantly gives me amazingly long lashes without needing to apply so much product. It curls my lashes as I apply the product and keeps them curled for the entire day! This mascara does not clump your lashes unless you wait in between coats to let your lashes dry; it layers on well if the product on your lashes is still wet. The intense black shade is also what makes this mascara unique; it isn’t a shiny black but rather a very dark matte black. In terms of volume, this mascara worked great in separating my lashes and coating each lash but I have tried other mascaras that create bigger volume however, in terms of length, I don’t think this mascara can be beat.
I highly recommend this mascara even though it is pricey because of the shade, curls and holds the curl and gives amazing length. I have been using this for almost 2 months now and the formula has not dried out, which happens to me a lot with other mascaras.
I go through many mascaras since I like to replace them every 3 months or sooner if they are dried out. I randomly picked this up one day without expecting much but this is now a new favourite of mine! This review is on the non-waterproof formula in the shade “Very Black”.
The tube is much larger than an average mascara tube and holds 12 mL of product which is also more than most mascaras. The wand has very short bristles that I thought would clump my lashes together similar to the Maybelline The Falsies Push-Up Drama mascara which you can find my review on here. However, it surprisingly combed through my lashes and separated them very well. It applied the perfect amount of product to each lash and gave them volume and length. They recommend that you twirl the wand as your applying the mascara but I find it easier to just wiggle and run the brush on my lashes.
The formula itself is not too wet where it would make a mess; but wasn’t dry either, so you could layer the product to get a more dramatic look. This mascara did not smudge at all under my eyes (I apply mascara to my lower lashes as well) and was slightly more difficult to remove than other non-waterproof mascaras; but not by much. Overall, this is a very good mascara and I would definitely recommend it.
Mascara is probably the makeup product that I purchase most often since I tend to go through them fast and can only really keep them for 3 months or so. Naughty Cosmetics is a fairly new brand and this is the only product that they currently offer.
The formula is on the dry side so it can flake if I layer on too much product; I do about 2 coats with no wait time since the formula will completely dry in a few seconds on the lashes. I like how this formula keeps my lashes curled and holds them well throughout the day. This mascara has an intense black shade.
I’m not sure if it is the brush or the formula that makes clumping impossible; no matter how much you layer on. It may be because of the fast drying formula which doesn’t let much product coat the lashes. The brush is fairly large and has long bristles; I love how it combs and separates my lashes so well! It also has bristles on the tip so it makes applying mascara to the inner and outer corners of my eyes super easy.
Overall, I liked that it separated my lashes and not clumped them together and that it held the curl. However, I didn’t like that I was unable to layer on enough product to get a dramatic look and that the formula was too dry.
